Anyone have any info on the old Martin clock key neck joints? Do they move up and down? Or do they actually change the neck pitch? Anyone ever take one apart and photograph it?? Thanks, Louis |

Louis, not to intentionally send you to another forum, but I have detailed photographs of the neck of a 1913 Hauser guitar using this type of joint over on the MIMF forum. It's derived from the Stauffer neck, which is where Martin got his design, so it should answer any of your questions. http://www.mimf.com/library/stauffer_adjustable_neck.htm I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use that link unless you are a member of MIMF. Upshot is that the neck sits in a pocket, and a screw connects the neck to the body. The body has a nut that accepts the screw, and the neck has a constriction that keeps the screw from sliding all the way through. Turn the nut and the neck pivots against the top edge of the body, changing the neck angle. |
